Sofrito is a Spanish sauce used in many Latinos households and it is made in different ways. Some people make their sofrito from vegetables such as peppers, onions, garlic, culantro, other herbs and sweet peppers. In other places it is made with ham and yet others with tomatoes. Sofrito means to sauté. It is used to flavor almost all our meals: rice and beans, soups, meat, fish, even eggs. It is used to make a sauce with onions and peppers then added to day old meat left overs.
El sofrito es una salsa española que se usa en muchos hogares latinos y se elabora de diferentes maneras. Algunas personas hacen su sofrito con vegetales como pimientos, cebollas, ajo, culantro, otras hierbas y ajices dulce. En otros lugares se elabora con jamón y en otros con tomate. Sofrito significa saltear. Se utiliza para condimentar casi todas nuestras comidas: arroz y frijoles, sopas, carnes, pescados, incluso huevos. Se usa para hacer una salsa con cebollas y pimientos y luego se agrega a las sobras de carne de un día.
